This study aimed to investigate the role of economic inequality, employment, and economic growth in road traffic fatalities in order to clarify the contribution of macroeconomic factors in increasing or decreasing road safety. Time series data related to the variables of accident fatalities, inequality (Gini coefficient), employment, and GDP were analyzed in an autoregressive distribution lag (ARDL) model to identify long-term relationships between them. The results showed that there is a stable and significant relationship between the variables and that income inequality is the most important increasing factor in fatalities. Also, increasing employment and economic growth in the absence of effective safety and distribution policies can exacerbate fatalities. The error correction coefficient showed that the system returns to long-term equilibrium at a rate of about 6.4 percent per period. The findings indicate that economic development will only lead to a reduction in casualties if it is accompanied by policies to reduce inequality, promote social justice, improve safety infrastructure, and public education; otherwise, economic growth alone will not guarantee a sustainable reduction in casualties. آسیب‌های جاده‌ای از مهم‌ترین چالش‌های توسعه در ایران به شمار می‌آیند و پیامدهای اقتصادی و اجتماعی گسترده‌ای دارند. این مطالعه با هدف بررسی نقش نابرابری اقتصادی، اشتغال و رشد اقتصادی در تلفات ترافیکی جاده‌ای انجام شده است تا سهم عوامل کلان اقتصادی در افزایش یا کاهش ایمنی جاده‌ها روشن شود. داده‌های سری زمانی مربوط به متغیرهای تلفات تصادفات، نابرابری (ضریب جینی)، اشتغال و تولید ناخالص داخلی در مدل خودرگرسیو با وقفه‌های توزیعی (ARDL) مورد تحلیل قرار گرفتند تا روابط بلندمدت میان آنها شناسایی شود. نتایج نشان داد بین متغیرها رابطه‌ای پایدار و معنادار وجود دارد و نابرابری درآمدی مهم‌ترین عامل فزاینده تلفات است. همچنین افزایش اشتغال و رشد اقتصادی در غیاب سیاست‌های ایمنی و توزیعی مؤثر می‌تواند موجب تشدید تلفات شود. ضریب تصحیح خطا نشان داد که سیستم با سرعت حدود ۶.۴ درصد در هر دوره به تعادل بلندمدت بازمی‌گردد. یافته‌ها بیانگر آن است که توسعه اقتصادی تنها در صورتی منجر به کاهش تلفات می‌شود که هم‌زمان با سیاست‌های کاهش نابرابری، ارتقای عدالت اجتماعی، بهبود زیرساخت‌های ایمنی و آموزش عمومی همراه باشد؛ در غیر این صورت رشد اقتصادی به‌تنهایی کاهش پایدار تلفات را تضمین نخواهد کرد. https://road.bhrc.ac.ir/article_237487_c9bc57053707c6a763689989c94eb1ff.pdf
