Abstract

Since preserving the safety and quality of road is among the most important factors in designing and constructing pavements, using porous asphalt as a model of water guiding pavement makes an opportunity to maintain the road safety in raining condition and reduces greatly the risks due to improper climate conditions. Regarding to the construction model of porous asphalt pavement, attention to its quality and durability are among the important issues in designing this type of asphalt mixtures. Experts and researchers have suggested using modern materials and additives in order to improve the function of porous asphalt. One of these materials which is paid attention in using hot common asphalt (HMA) is a waste named steel slag that its positive effects have been seen frequently in function of hot asphalt mixtures. In this research, using slag fine-aggregates as filler in porous asphalts has been compared to fine-aggregates of mountain rocks in order to investigate more accurately. The results obtained from the function tests like Cantabro and moisture sensitivity (lottman) specified that using steel slag as filler not only has improved the function of porous asphalt mixture, but also it has led to decline in functional properties. Moreover, in this research, the causes of obtained results have been reviewed and then, some suggestions have been posed to improve the function of slag porous asphalt function.
