Abstract

Due to the dispersion of urban geography in the country of Iran, the high cost of air transport and the inadequacy of the country's rail transport network, road transport has become the first choice for inter-city trips. Also, because of the wide extent of cities and the problems of the inter-city transport network, it is important in major cities to locate terminals appropriately. This article aims to optimize the location of inter-city bus terminals based on the highest utility and compatibility with passenger issues (service recipient), vehicles issues (provider services), and urban and environmental issues (as an urban land use). The literature review of the research has identified the effective criteria for optimizing the location of inter-city terminals. Then, an optimal location of the inter-city bus terminals has been assessed for the city of Shiraz as a case study. In this regard, the required scores for different levels of a criterion are determined and by using the EMME software and the spatial database of comprehensive urban transportation planning of Shiraz, the score of each traffic zone has been calculated. Subsequently, Analytic Hierarchy Process was used and the appropriate weight was assigned to each of the parameters by using a questionnaire filled by experts. Finally, by specifying the scores of each criteria and weights of each criteria, by using the Expert Choice software, entering the information into the GIS and running overlap analysis, the final score of each traffic zone for the construction of a terminal for Shiraz City calculated.
