Abstract

The road transport network in each country plays a vital role in the economy of that society, so the physical conditions of infrastructure are very important. Undoubtedly, without adequate and timely maintenance, the roads will be severely damaged and will require extensive repairs, which will often involve more cost than simple repairs that could be done sooner. With the rise in the price of asphalt pavements, the use of surface treatments is widely used as a preventive action in the repair and maintenance of pavements in Iran and the world. Over the past years, microsurfacing has been widely accepted as an effective method for preventative maintenance of pavements in various types of surface treatments. The use of microsurfacing, protects and delaying the damage of pavements, sealing the surface of the road, increasing the resistance to abrasion and correcting the pavement surface. In addition to the advantages mentioned above, rutting, stripping and weathering  are among the common defects in microsurfacing, which are generally due to destruction of wear on aggregates, the displacement of materials, the lack of sufficient adhesion between bitumen and aggregates, the lack of abrasion resistance of aggregates, improper mixing design, and Inappropriate implementation are created. Hence, the investigation of failures in microsurfacing is vital, and it is important for road and urban departments that surface treatments be designed and optimized to have the best performance and maximum life span, the speed of their implementation is quick to minimize the delay in opening the traffic, the service life of the pavement increases the way, reduces maintenance costs and increases the safety of the road. Therefore, in this study, the factors affecting the microsurfacing performance have been investigated.
