Abstract

Metropolitan population growth, along with increased social activities, has increased the demand for citizen's daily travel. The transport industry is regarded by economic policy makers as one of the pillars of social and economic development in most countries. The 1404 Outlook document introduces Iran as an active and influential global economy. Due to the traffic congestion problem, urban transportation has been considered as one of the main challenges in recent decades. Regarding the naming of the years 1395 and 1396 as the year of the resistance economy by the Supreme Leader, lack of access to world-class technologies and increased air pollution, improving the efficiency of existing urban transportation systems is becoming more and more important. Therefore, the present study aims at measuring the technical efficiency of Tehran's city train as one of the largest cities in West Asia and the twenty-fourth largest city in the world in order to improve the quality of services provided by the largest public transportation fleet using the data envelopment analysis. The results indicate that the average technical efficiency of about 73% of 5 active trains in the study period shows a relatively good technical efficiency, which demonstrates that by only reducing 27% inputs and some structural improvements, could maximize technical efficiency in this area.
