Abstract
Today, the role of cars in environmental pollution and energy consumption is one of the important society issues. Researchers try to improve the performance of cars in emissions terms and fuel consumption by using new methods and technologies. In this study, instantaneous microscopic fuel consumption model was developed. This model was used in simulation platforms, integration, and it was used to design and test advanced driver assistance systems, with the aim of conducting environmentally friendly driving and reducing greenhouse gases. For integration in the platform used in the early stages of ADAS development and testing, a simple proposed model dependent on variables with simple computing capability was developed. The studied route was an 80 km route consisting of two road sections with a speed of 100 and 120 km/h and a single lane road with a speed limit of 60 km/h (and no overtaking allowed). 100 people drove on this route. 5 professional drivers also participated. They were asked to drive economically based on fuel consumption. An instantaneous model based on vehicle speed and acceleration was identified, which can be used in suburban areas. The correctness of the proposed model prediction was confirmed by performing momentary and total validations. The obtained findings show that despite the relative simplicity of the model structure and the few input variables, the proposed model estimates the instantaneous fuel consumption in a favorable way and when the fuel consumption values are added together in the above time windows, then a better estimate is obtained.
