Abstract
This study aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the efficiency and user satisfaction of public transport systems in the metropolitan city of Isfahan, focusing on the metro and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) networks. Using a mixed-method approach that combines a literature review and field surveys, the research analyzes user perceptions to identify key factors influencing service performance and quality. The findings show that users’ perceived efficiency is mainly shaped by indicators such as scheduling reliability, station accessibility, fleet capacity, and the level of coordination between different transport modes. The results also reveal that inadequate network integration, limited infrastructure coverage in peripheral areas, and fleet shortages are major challenges, while safety levels, popularity among younger users, and the presence of a basic infrastructural framework are notable strengths. The study emphasizes that improving service quality—especially reliability—can encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transport. The main contribution of this research is its simultaneous evaluation of two primary urban transport modes and the development of an integrated framework for analyzing user experience in an Iranian city. This framework provides valuable insights for urban policymakers aiming to promote sustainable development and improve the operational efficiency of public transport systems.
